Election results: 49 up, 50 crashing

Well, at 8:45 it appears that Measure 49 will pass, thank God, which means that people who backed Measure 37 should be happy and those who opposed Measure 37 will be breathing a huge sigh of relief: Measure 49 gives Measure 37 backers everything they said they wanted, so everybody should be happy now. The people who wanted to build a house or two can and the timber companies and tract developers can’t drive an entire development or landfill or quarry through the Measure 37 nightmare loophole. And the billboards will stop, thank God.
Sad about Measure 50 failing, though it was kind of a shoe-string stab at health care reform. Given that the Democrats in Salem will not put a real universal health care plan into place anytime soon, maybe they should just put an exact duplicate of M50 on the ballot when they meet again in 2008, and keep doing that until it passes or Phillip Morris and RJ Reynolds cry uncle. Having to drop $12M every couple of months to argue against making smokers help pay for the horrendous health care costs they inflict on society might get old, even for corporate criminals like them.
