OSU’s Electrical Engineers created this presentation just for you. The pdf, ‘Wave Energy Opportunities and Developments‘, outlines not only the technology but also the environmental protocol being followed in the assessment of wave energy. Scientists are quite aware of the potential effects of electromagnetism and mechanics on marine ecosystems. Data is now being collected that will help in improving the designs of wave energy systems to minimize the impact on aquatic life.
The high raptor mortality at Altamont Pass Wind Farms was an indication of how important environmental protocol can be. The wind turbine technology used at the time was also a factor. Improved mechanical design, along with a better understanding of siting issues, will minimize the ecological footprint of future renewable energy systems, and also reduce noise and visual impact. Or we could fart loudly, fall to sleep, and dream about how nothing matters anymore because of global warming.
