With all the energy devoted to the bottle bill, don’t forget to make mention of the far more important toxic e-waste bill whenever you talk to a legislator.

There’s lots of arguments about how best to deal with empty pop bottles–there’s no argument about the need to keep toxics and heavy metals out of the environment! An empty pop bottle is an eyesore and a small waste of recyclable resources; the millions of discarded monitors and computers are hazards that release deadly pollution into our groundwater and endanger our health.

We’re decades behind where bottle recycling is, and we need to catch up as fast as we can.

So this is good news!

Oregon Conservation Network reports:

Expanding Oregon’s Electronic Recycling Program

The bill that will make Oregon a leader in recycling unwanted electronics, HB 2626, unanimously passed the Natural Resources Subcommittee of Ways and Means on Thursday. It now moves to the full Ways and Means committee and is expected to reach the House floor within the next few weeks.
