Here’s a note from Ellen Pinney of the Oregon Health Action Campaign.
The Oregon Health Plan Standard reservation list is open!
In one week over 41,164 people have signed up in hopes that they will be one of the lucky 10,000 people who will be able to enroll in Oregon Health Plan Standard because their name will be selected, they got to apply and they were found eligible.
But there are thousands more who should be offered a chance to have their name drawn to receive an Oregon Health Plan Standard application.
The hard work to inform all whose names could be on this list comes between today and February 29th. Because now that the buzz of excitement is over, people might believe that they have time to do it later.
The truth is, after February 29th, the standard reservation list is closed. No one can sign up after that date. Names will be selected from the reservation list at least through the end of this year.
Do your part to keep the buzz alive! To help spread the word! To help people have a chance to get lucky!
1. Go to the DHS website (www.oregon.gov/DHS/open) OHP Standard Reservation List and order or download the new brochures and posters. (If you order materials, they should get to you within three days).
2. Go through your community and distribute flyers / hang posters in laundry mats, Good Will and Salvation Army stores, community action agencies, the library, City Hall, Chambers of Commerce, hospitals, clinics.
3. Help sign people up on line in your clinic, your business, your union, your agency.
4. Hand a brochure to your gas station attendant, your waiter or waitress.
5. Get information distributed through your child’s school or/and your place of worship.
The process is so very simple. Anyone interested in getting their name on the reservation list must simply provide name, birthdate, and address by:
a) Calling 800-699-9075 between 7am - 7pm Monday
b) Going on line 24 hours a day 7 days a week and completing a reservation list form. Click here: OHP Reservation List.
c) Faxing forms and/or completing them in self-sufficiency offices is also possible.
After February 29th, your chance to be lucky with health care loses the reservation list option.
Coming into the lunar New Year, I wish you luck with health care!
**Luck that you are covered at a price you can afford. **Luck that your coverage provides what you need. **Luck that you do not get sick if you are not covered. **Luck that if you are uninsured and get sick, your providers and hospitals will work with you so that you can get the services you need and help with costs you cannot afford.
And most of all, in 2008 and 2009, here’s hoping that the work of advocates and policy makers and the Oregon Health Fund Board will take the luck out of health coverage all together. That by working together, we can achieve a plan that gets us to health care for all.
To health and luck,
Ellen Pinney Oregon Health Action Campaign
