New Directions for Democracy

A sense of balance keeps things lively and interesting, so it’s good to keep a few moderate Republicans around so you can bounce ideas off their heads like ping-pong balls. But the emerging connection between the Democratic Party and the environmental movement, with Al Gore as the Nobel Prize-winning figurehead, will become irresistible to new generations of politically restless voters who will be raised with environmental awareness as a Holy Grail to be held against increasingly severe effects of global warming on a planet ravaged by a century old monopoly started by Standard Oil…
And the realities of global warming, coupled with decreasing supplies of oil, will dictate changes within the Republican Party, whose members have traditionally invested in the petroleum infrastructure.
A new wave of public opinion is sweeping over the (formerly silent) masses, who will move with torches blazing and cries of ‘planet killer’ toward irresponsible corporate entities, to be symbolically cast into bubbling vats of digestive enzymes (like in The Fly II) and made into soilant green.
In the near future the Republicans, faced with overwhelming negative PR about the environment, will need to re-orient themselves with respect to green philosophies, in spite of a legacy of predatory business interests. By contrast, the Progressives appear as saviors of the Earth, standing united for a noble purpose. The question should be asked of all reasoned doctrines: is it enabling and sustainable? Or will its basic nature stifle innovation and competition, or consume finite resources. One must examine the ultimate motivations for political orientation and assess whether intellect or profit is the driving force.
Welcome to the new age of Progressive Democracy.
