libertyWhich Oregon legislators in the 2005 session supported equality and liberty for Oregonians? Which ones opposed or even promoted limiting civil liberties for the people of this state? The ACLU of Oregon has published its legislative scorecard for the 2005 session and there aren’t too many surprises: House Speaker Karen Minnis and House Majority Leader Wayne Scott both got zeros. Four Democratic House members scored a perfect 100%: Rosenbaum, Nolan, Hansen and Dingfelder.

Up in the Oregon Senate we don’t see any zeros or 100s, but the two highest scores of 86% are held by Dem Senators Frank Shields and Vicki Walker. The lowest score of 14% went to the senate minority leader Republican Ted Ferrioli.

Lots of civil liberties issues were considered, proposed and/or voted on during the session. They included civil unions, an expansion of the DNA innocence law for convicted defendants (some kooks actually voted against this,) proposed expanded criminal homicide laws to include death of a fetus “at any stage of development in the womb”, allowing employers to fire employees who are medical marijuana patients, among other things.
