Take Action: Support SB2 & HB2007

As a veteran enjoying a marriage approaching 24 years now, I continue to remain mystified by the arguments that discrimination against gays and lesbians is somehow “pro-family” or necessary for a civilized society.
We need to get the state out of the marriage business — marriages ought to be left up to churches/synagogues/mosques/etc., with no religious institution forced to marry anyone against its tenets, but the STATE should not endorse discrimination, and all Oregonians ought to have the same rights to the benefits conferred by committed partnership status, just as my wife and I do through our marriage.

Well said. It is time for a real separation of church and state with respect to marriage. There is no need for the state to offer marriages to anyone. The states only intrest should be the administration of a civil union contract.
This seems to be such a simple and self evident mechanism for granting civil rights to all Oregonians. Marriage is a function of your church. It is up to each religious institution to determine whose marriage they will sanctify.
