Rob Zako of OTRAN sends this important announcement:

How is ODOT addressing climate change?

a presentation by

Damon Fordham
ODOT Sustainability Manager

Tuesday, November 13, 6:30 pm
Lawrence Hall, Room 206
University of Oregon campus, Eugene
This event is being sponsored by “Live Move,” the Transportation and Livability Student Group at the UO:  http://www.uoregon.edu/~livemove/

Additional support is being provided by  the Oregon Transportation Research and Education Consortium (OTREC):   http://otrec.us/

Those outside of Lane County can nonetheless visit ODOT”s sustainability web page:
http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/SUS/

In any case, this posting should serve as a good transition to discussing the kind of transportation system we want to have in Oregon, especially in the face of climate change, peak oil, etc.

P.S. As always, these and other ideas for transportation reform are available on the OTRAN wiki/webpage:  http://www.eugeneneighbors.org/wiki/OTRAN

Anyone near UO and interested in planning for a livable future is encouraged to attend.  Most of ODOT appears to be oblivious to the need for a drastic response to the sustainability crisis (and especially to the kinds of changes in our transport system that this will entail), so the more people turn out to hear and support this kind of thing the better.

Here is the future of the transportation system, a sustainable network coordinated with land-use, that conserves energy, reduces atmospheric carbon, accommodates increased transit ridership, and reflects environmental, social, and economic objectives.
